City denied victory by late Hibs equaliser

Hibernian 2
Baucom 80’ Lawson 90+3’

A late Poppy Lawson strike denied City victory at Petershill Park.

Goals from Anna Oscarsson and Carlee Giammona had given City a two goal advantage but late goals from Jorian Baucom and Poppy Lawson gave Hibernian a point.

Leanne Ross made five changes from the side that drew with Celtic in midweek.

The opening stages of the match failed to get into a rhythm with a few stoppages due to injuries but Emily Whelan for City and Tegan Bowie for Hibs had efforts on goal.

City found the breakthrough just before the half hour mark. Lisa Forrest’s corner kick was met brilliantly by Anna Oscarsson who headed the ball into the far corner of the net.

Carlee Giammona went close after a great run before Whelan was denied from close range and Kenzie Weir’s header was saved by Katlynn Fraine in the Hibernian goal.

Giammona wasn’t to be denied at the start of the second half as she doubled City’s lead within 20 seconds when she was played through and despite Fraine denying her first effort, the American tapped home to make it two.

Hibs looked to respond with Bowie having an effort blocked by Chloe Warrington before Jorian Baucom volleyed wide from close range.

Amy Muir had a curling effort that was saved before Hibs reduced the deficit thanks to Baucom’s strike from inside the penalty area.

City nearly restored the two goal advantage when Whelan charged down a backpass but Fraine denied her.

The visitors equalized in stoppage time when Poppy Lawson’s effort from the edge of the box found the bottom corner.

City are next in action on Sunday when we welcome Rangers to Petershill Park.
